Privacy Notice
Effective 28 October 2026.
danqna.com is a free fan project. This page explains, in plain language, what information we handle, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the website, the addon and the Windows program.
What we collect
When you register
- Your email address (used to log in and to contact you about your account).
- A password, which we never keep in readable form. We store only a one-way scrambled version of it.
- Your public username, which becomes your journal address. Your display name and "about you" text are whatever you choose to write.
When you write journal entries
- The text of each entry, whether it is Public or Private, and when it was written.
- The character name, realm and game version it came from.
- The screenshot taken with the entry. We re-save screenshots as JPEG files and remove any hidden information such as camera or location data.
When you share
- If you share your journal, or a single entry, with another account, we record who it is shared with and when. The other person can see what you shared until you stop sharing. You can stop at any time, and the record shows that sharing has ended.
When you like, report or appeal
- If you like an entry, we record that your account liked it. Only the number of likes is ever shown. Nobody else can see who liked an entry.
- If you report an entry, we record the reason you chose, anything you add, the time, and your account if you were signed in. You don't need an account to report.
- If your entry is hidden and you appeal, we keep your statement with the entry.
When you use the Windows program
- A name for each PC you sign in (its computer name), when it last connected, and a secret key that lets that PC send entries. We store only a scrambled form of the key. Your password is used once to sign in and is not saved on your PC.
- At setup, the program adds the addon to your game folder and switches the game's screenshot setting to JPEG. After that it reads only the addon's saved data and your screenshots folder. It does not look at your characters, chat or other game data, or other files on your PC.
When you visit the site
- A sign-in cookie, if you log in, and a small security cookie that protects our forms from forgery. Both are needed for the site to work. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run analytics.
- Our web server records standard technical details of each request, including your IP address, the page asked for, the time, and your browser type. We use these only for security and fixing problems, and we keep them for about two weeks.
- Our site runs behind Cloudflare, so Cloudflare also handles this traffic (see below).
What we use it for
- To run your journal: to store your entries, show them as you choose, and let you sign in.
- To email you about your account: verifying your address, resetting a password, or confirming a change of address. We don't send marketing email.
- To keep the Service safe: preventing abuse, enforcing our Terms, limiting sign-in attempts, reviewing reports and appeals, and detecting illegal content, including child sexual abuse material. Our moderators can see a reported entry, its reports, and its like count. A report of child abuse hides the entry right away while it is reviewed.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use your entries to advertise or to train AI systems.
Who can see your journal
- Public entries can be seen by anyone on the internet, without an account. Search engines may find them.
- Private entries can be seen by you, and by accounts you choose to share with.
- Your email address is never shown publicly.
How we protect it
- Emails, entry text, character names, screenshots and other personal fields are encrypted on our server's storage. Each screenshot is encrypted on its own. The encryption keys are kept separately from the database, and backups are encrypted too.
- Connections to the site use HTTPS.
- This is protection for stored data. It is not end-to-end encryption: our server has to read your entries to show them to you, so authorized people who run the Service can reach your content if it is genuinely necessary, for example to fix a fault, investigate abuse, or comply with the law.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
Who else is involved
- Cloudflare delivers and protects the site. Traffic passes through Cloudflare, so it can see requests and the content passing through, and it caches some public content. Cloudflare's CSAM Scanning Tool checks images it delivers against databases of known child sexual abuse material. See Cloudflare's own privacy policy for how it handles data.
- Email. Account emails go from our own mail server to your email provider, which will see those messages.
- Patreon. We link to our Patreon page. If you follow the link, Patreon's terms and privacy practices apply. We don't share your account details with Patreon.
- Authorities. We may disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect people from harm. We may report child sexual abuse material to the police or other relevant authorities.
Where it is stored
Our server is a small computer we run ourselves. Your data is stored there. Cloudflare and some email providers operate internationally, so some data may pass through other countries.
How long we keep it
- Your account and journal stay until you delete them.
- If you delete your account from Settings, your content, and the likes you gave, are removed from our live systems immediately. Reports you made about other people's entries stay as records, without your name. An account with a child-safety report under review can't be deleted until the review is finished. Encrypted backups are kept for up to 30 days, so copies of deleted data disappear from them within that time.
- Server logs are kept for about two weeks.
- We may keep records for longer where the law requires it, or where they relate to a safety report or a dispute.
Your choices
- Change your details or hide characters: in Settings.
- Change your email address or password: in Settings.
- Make your journal private, or choose which entries are public: in Settings and in the addon.
- Share with particular people, or stop sharing: in Settings.
- Delete your account: in Settings.
- Questions about your information: email support@danqna.com and we will respond.
- Remove a PC: use Sign out in the Windows program, or remove it in Settings.
Children
The Service is not for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this notice in a way that matters, we will tell you on the site or by email before it takes effect where practical.
